Coed Round-Up – Week 1

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Coed week 1 has come and gone – and since this round-up is a bit late, week 2 is well under way as well with the Tues/Thurs. results already rolling in.

It’s difficult to suggest surprises this early in a session, or more accurately right at the outset of a session, but Gameday Dreamrz 2-1 victory over United (2 goals from leading scorer Carlon DeCouteau) can be counted as a bit of an anomaly.  Or can it?  In previous session, the teams were either certain to draw or Gameday walked away with the points – except when it mattered most, where United were quick to establish themselves as the team with more nerves and oust Gameday from the Semi-Finals… …eventually winning the title over their opponents the Strikers.  The Strikers on the other hand seemed to take a comfortable 3 points from Porty’s Posse with a 7-2 victory.

Thus far it’s tough to tell or to segment out the interesting bits as the session has just started.  Hopefully in coming weeks, as patterns start to emerge and more matches are attended, there’ll be more colourful commentary on offer.

Featured Members: Van Sterr FC… Keep It In The Family

VanSterr FC

Van Sterr FC; It's a family affair.

In August of 2009 Betty Sterritt and I registered a family-based team for the Fall 2009 Indoor Coed Division of BAS. The team consists of Betty and I, Betty’s daughters Mandy, Laura and Nicole, my son Bryan and daughter Michelle, my brother Tony, Mandy’s spouse Dave Penney, Betty’s cousin Carol Reid, and non-family members Doru Manase, Jason Knapp, Sonia Pannu and Manuel Silva. Even the non-family members have connections to the family, however. Doru’s daughter Cristina and Michelle played together for many years in the Brams United Girls Soccer Club, on a team that I coached. Doru and I have also faced each other on the soccer pitch many times, as we’ve played on different teams in the BAS Master’s division. Jason played indoor soccer with Bryan for a number of seasons in Woodbridge. Manuel and Betty both work in the health care industry and although they work for different companies, they are in regular contact. Laura and Nicole have both worked part-time for Manuel’s company. And finally, Sonia and Betty previously played together for one indoor and one outdoor session.

High Drama In CoEd Finals

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The coed season concluded in thrilling fashion last night with neither Championship concluding in regulation time.

In the Division A Final, Team B.A.M.F. appeared comfortably in control, leading 2 – 0 late in the match. Two goals in the last 6 minutes by U.K.S. United, however, sent the match into extra-time. With U.K.S. penalized and down a player, Dorin Manase skillfully placed the golden goal passed U.K.S. keeper, Pat Araya to clinch the title.
